Randy Mundy & the Mundy Mourning Blues Band

Randy Mundy & the Mundy Mourning Blues Band, Ogden, Utah, Peerys Egyptian Theatre, LDS, Blues Music, Country MusicNow, my base of operations is again Utah, having relocated there after my mother’s death several years ago, to be closer to Karen’s family and help care for her ailing mother. Karen decided at this point that she did not care to actively perform live any longer and that wanted devote herself to other pursuits. Not wanting to be creatively idle, I continued to write, record, and perform my music live. I have returned to my love of the blues and have recorded a couple more CDs of original blues and jazz tunes—“Blue Mundy (Part 1)” and “Blue Mundy (Part2)”—with my new performing group, “RANDY MUNDY & THE MUNDY MOURNING BLUES BAND”. I am currently working on a third blues and jazz CD, which I hope to release later this year. Life is good when you can do what you love.

Manhattan Transfer

The Manhattan Transfer is an American vocal music group. There have been two manifestations of the group, with Tim Hauser being the only person to be part of both. The group’s name comes from John Dos Passos’ 1925 novel Manhattan Transfer and refers to their New York origins.

Manhattan Transfer, Musical Artists, Jazz Music, Vocal HarmonyThe current group (still together as of 2010) was founded during 1972 by Tim Hauser and singers Alan Paul, Janis Siegel, and Laurel Massé. Performances at Max’s Kansas City, Trude Heller’s and Reno Sweeney with Herb Abramson’s A-1 Sound engineer Jim Reeves in New York City soon developed for them a cult fan base, and it was at the latter venue that Ahmet Ertegün, founder and chairman of Atlantic Records, saw them and offered a recording contract which resulted in the release, during 1975, of this team’s first album, The Manhattan Transfer. The album included the group’s first successful single, the gospel tune “Operator”. During the summer of 1975, the Manhattan Transfer were showcased in their own hour-long television variety series on CBS.

Their newest CD, “The Chick Corea Songbook” was released in September 2009. This release features Chick Corea’s most recognizable material with an appearance by Chick Corea himself on Free Samba. Other notable musicians on this recording are Airto, Scott Kinsey, Gary Novack, Steve Hass, Alex Acuna, Jimmy Earl, John Benitez, and Christian McBride.

Chris Proctor with Alicia McGovern

Critics call Chris Proctor’s guitar playing “breathtaking,” “haunting,” and “rich.” They describe his compositions as “spectacular,” “elegant,” and “exquisite.” They trace the roots of his style to folk, jazz, pop, and classical music, and, when all else fails, they try and categorize his playing as “baroque folk,” or “Instrumental Americana.” The guitar press compares him to Leo Kottke and Michael Hedges. Another reviewer ventures this analysis: “In his taut, faceted compositions, Chris gives the guitar sole responsibility for a piece’s rhythmic, melodic, and harmonic components, and in the process creates full-voiced ‘guitar songs.’ His playing illuminates the instrument’s deepest voices and most sonorous qualities, rendering a pop-folk equivalent of the classical guitar sonata.”

Miner’s Day Park City

Miner’s Day Celebration in City Park will feature great live music from Brooklyn, NY’s The Pimps Of Joytime and Special Guests JEBU:

The Pimps of Joytime are the ultimate desert island band. PJT’s can turn a lifetime in isolation into a party that never ends. This multi-ethnic group hits all the marks and crosses all the barriers, bridging the gap between underground funk, soul, pop, dance, afrobeat and latin, filling every song with soulful harmonies and great vibes.

Brian J is the band’s ringmaster. He started PJT’s in Brooklyn back in 2005, where they cut their teeth while playing clubs in Williamsburg and the East Village. On stage, he’s the lead singer and guitarist, and in the studio, he’s the funkiest one-man-band this side of Minneapolis.

Mixing samples and dance beats with tasty live musicianship and sweet vocal harmonies, The Pimps of Joytime have evolved into the current five-piece that gets crowds on their feet from London to New York to San Francisco. Somehow, PJT’s found a way to put a modern twist on a retro sound, creating dirty, ass-shakin’ grooves like no one else out there!
