Katy Perry

Katy Perry, Salt Lake City, Utah California Dreams Tour 2011, Energy Solutions Arena, Pop Music Artist

Katy Perry’s “California Dreams” world tour is coming to North America this summer and will stop at the NuSkin Theater at EnergySolutions Arena on July 25th.

Katheryn Elizabeth Hudson (born October 25, 1984), better known by her stage name Katy Perry, is an American pop musician. Born in Santa Barbara, California, and raised by Christian pastor parents, Perry grew up listening to only gospel music and sang in her local church as a child. After earning a GED during her freshman year of high school, she began to pursue a career in music. As Katy Hudson, she released a self-titled gospel album in 2001, which due to the closing of her record label, was deemed unsuccessful. She later recorded an album with the production team The Matrix and completed most of a solo album from 2004–5, neither of which were released.

Jon Schmidt

Jon Schmidt (born 1966) is an American pianist currently residing in Salt Lake City, Utah. He describes his style as “New Age Classical.” He was born to German immigrants who acquainted him with the works of such composers as Beethoven, Mozart, and Chopin. He began songwriting at age 11. To date, he has released eight albums and seven piano books containing transcriptions of original arrangements. His work is often described as New Age music with pop elements of hook and melody. He is also noted for his treatment of harmony, counterpoint, and rhythm. His works were also featured on sample discs for the Iomega Hipzip Digital Audio Player with the pieces “Sacred Ground”, “All of Me”, and “Waterfall”. Schmidt’s influences include Mannheim Steamroller, Billy Joel, and Beethoven. Schmidt currently has more than 2 million hits on YouTube for his piano/cello arrangement of Taylor Swift’s “Love Story” and Coldplay’s “Viva La Vida”, which is called “Love Story meets Viva La Vida”.

Sara Bareilles

A gifted singer and a versatile pianist with no formal training, Sara Bareilles burst onto the pop scene with a naturally skilled voice that ranged from powerful and soulful to sweet and gentle, earning her instant comparisons to Fiona Apple and Norah Jones. At age 18, she left the Redwood forests of her hometown, Eureka, CA, in pursuit of the big city lights of Los Angeles. Although she attended UCLA’s Communication Studies program, Bareilles spent the majority of her spare time studying her new environment and writing poetry and songs about the busy surroundings.

Sara Bareilles, Singer-Songwriter, Musical ArtistAfter graduating, she spent the next three years performing those songs at open-mic nights, slowly building her confidence as a musician before playing local venues and festivals. In 2003, she co-produced her first demo, Careful Confessions, and became enthralled with recording techniques. Eager to go back to the studio and create a second full-length album, she started shopping her CD around and signed a deal with Epic Records in April 2005. Producer Eric Rosse took her under his wing the following February and the two spent a little over a year perfecting the orchestration — nearly half of the songs had formerly appeared on Careful Confessions and a new batch of tracks was carefully constructed in order to make her first major-label release as strong as possible. The lyrical themes of the album, entitled Little Voice and released in July 2007, covered her past relationships, insecurities, and inner battles with trying to trust her instincts. The single “Love Song,” after being promoted by both iTunes and Rhapsody, made the album a hit; both single and album reached the Top Ten. – All Music Guide
