Arsenic and Old Lace

West Jordan Theater Arts is presenting the classic comedy “Arsenic and Old Lace” at the historic Sugar Factory Playhouse.

Directed by Merrill Dodge, this 1940’s comedy is driven by two aging spinsters, the Brewster sisters (Giselle Airriess and Michelle Groves), who have opened their Victorian home to boarders. As gentlemen inquire about a room, these two sweet ladies offer them a glass of homemade Elderberry wine laced with myriad of deadly delights. Police get involved when Teddy Brewster (Bud Perry), who thinks he’s President Roosevelt, blows his bugle and charges up San Juan Hill, disturbing the neighbors. Evil nephew Jonathon Brewster (Gordon Jones) and his sidekick Dr. Einstein (Sean Buckley) return from prison with a dead body and try to bury him in the basement of the Brewster home.

It seems the only sane Brewster is Mortimer (Bob Bedore), who is engaged to Elaine (Jennifer Mason), but is worried that his roots will betray him, and he’ll become as batty as the rest of the family.

Patriot Day Tattoo

The City of West Jordan is holding a Patriot Day Tattoo Friday, September 11th. This “tattoo” is not designed to be imprinted on skin but rather in the hearts of those who take part in this sensory feast. The Patriot Day Tattoo is patterned after the world-famous Edinburgh, Scotland Tattoo where pipe bands, drummers, military regiments, dancers have performed. The West Jordan Patriot Day Tattoo will remember Patriot Day with a 1,500-flag Healing Field, pipe bands, drum corps, the 23rd Army Band, Highland Dancers, a joint service color guard and other entertainment. A marketplace with arts, crafts, and ethnic foods opens at 5:00 p.m. and can be enjoyed before and during the Tattoo entertainment. For more information, call Julie Brown at (801) 569-5119.

Arienette

Arienette, Singer-Songwriter, West Jordan, Utah, Acoustic, Folk, MusicianI have been involved with music ever since I can remember. I started my musical journey at a very young age by taking piano lessons and I was so excited that I would skip ahead through lessons and memorize all the songs in every book. At the same time I also participated in children choirs and loved performing. After my first experiences on stage I knew this is where I belonged.

I soon began playing the clarinet in elementary school and then switched to the oboe in middle school. My grandfather played the bass guitar during the 60’s in an Akron Ohio band called the “Blues Society”. When he passed away my older sister bought a bass guitar to help remember him. I picked up that bass guitar at age 11 and fell in love with Jazz music. I have played in my middle school, high school, and college jazz bands. I also played the bass in a few project bands.

I wrote my first song “Walk Away”when I was 14 and couldn’t stop writing after that. I started playing in bands and writing songs on my own, and collaborating with other musicians. It was difficult to write songs when playing the bass guitar so I turned back to the piano and later taught myself to play the guitar. For me music is like colors on a canvas. When I hear music I see color. Writing songs is like this thing inside of me dying to get out.

I love to perform and find myself completely at home on stage. It is the place where I am most comfortable. I have independently recorded and released two full-length albums and I am working on promoting and playing around the Utah. I find recording a little frustrating because it is so hard to make the final product sound the way I hear it in my head.

In my current music project I go by the name Arienette. I’ve been working full time on my music other than attending a semester of music classes at Salt Lake community College. The summer of 2011 has been quite busy for me I’ve been playing shows twice a week and promoting my new CD. I look forward to the future and the possibilities it might hold for me.
